Daily Prompt: Gabby Young Trio

IMG_0994

The Gabby Young Trio at the Midsummer Festival at the Royal Academy of Arts 2014

Surrounded by art

Of the great and good

The musical trio

With instruments stood.

Not the stuck up and haughty

But winsome and naughty

Playing music, rock-folksy with jazz.

The girls  decked with flowers

Their dresses so pretty

A guitarist both

Bearded and tall.

And as they play

With energy boundless

We find ourselves

Tapping away.

Their tunes

Captivating

Almost hypnotising

We smile as we welcome

This treat.

For this great occasion

Is one huge alloy

Art, sculpture and music

Concurrent.

Was there e’r such an evening

Of beauty and laughter

Of dancing and singing

The gallery ringing

To tunes which

Express so much love.

I wrote this poem in celebration of a wonderful evening at The Royal Academy of Art Midsummer Festival in 2014. The exhibition each year, takes work from emerging and established artists and gives them a chance to showcase their work. In 2014 they had a wonderful party for which I won some tickets. It was an very memorable evening and for me this trio was the icing on the cake. I believe Gabby Young went on to form a group Gabby Young and other Animals but I don’t think they are currently performing.

Here is a link to more about the group. Click here.

Daily Prompt: From Above

P1050434

They stand statuesque at the doors

Motionless, fierce and domineering

Their garb, loosely wrapped

Inadequate for the weather

Yet they flinch not

But stare through the glass with wings furled

And harps clutched tight.

Have they arrived from above to this

Cathedral door, now shut against the elements?

To pass judgement on those of us within

At earthly voices raised, we think sublime

But which can bear

No comparison for their celestial tones.

Unsettled, cowed,

We move into the cathedral nave

And resuming our seats,

Ponder our inadequacies and our souls.

Angels West door Guildford Cathedral

John Hutton engraved these angels on the Great West Door.  I find the angels forbidding and eerie. What do you think?

Sunshine and showers.

Sunshine and clouds then

Sunshine and wind.

If the weather changes so do I.

If it is hot sooo am I.

Husky dusky hot but too hot to handle.

If the weather is sombre

I see black but

If the weather is grey

I fade into nothingness

But… if the wind blows down the valley

and the sun shines on the fields

I dance in the open

And glow with happiness.
