The ocean’s fret board.
This is a rather steely picture of the sea along the Norfolk coast where the groynes extend far into the sea to stop the erosion. It reminded me of a guitar fret board!

Very nice. That’s the first time I’ve heard the word groyne, probably because I live on the prairies, not the coast. Thank you for introducing me to a new word today.
